Monumental Mills 60 Miler

One of the more challenging loops that doesn’t make it to the mountains, the Monumental Mills 60 Miler is a great ride that offers plenty of short, steep hills that will sure wear you out by the end of the 60 miles.

This ride starts from Culpeper’s local bike shop, the Bike Stop parking lot, so this would be a good time to stock up on an extra tube and CO2 cartridge.  Once out of the parking lot you will head out of Culpeper past our own National Cemetery and proceed towards RT 3.  Be careful on Rt. 3 as this road is a major thoroughfare towards Fredericksburg and does have extra traffic on it.  But once you make the turn onto Mt. Pony Rd., you will have daily empty roads for the remainder of the ride.

After the short climb and great descent off Mt. Pony, you will have about 10 miles from fairly flat terrain.  But after crossing Rt. 29 in Brandy, the route will start with gradual rollers.  But once you get on Mt. Zion Church Rd and continue onto Monumental Mills, the relentless hills will begin and they don’t end until you are safely back in Culpeper.
