This is it folks, we have heard it from the organizers… the 2016 Tour de Madison will go on, rain or shine. The event organizers are on top of it and they even made a few tweaks to the route just to be safe and avoid any flood areas. The key to riding in wet weather is to be prepared both with your bike (carry extra tubes because you always get more flats in the rain) and your gear (check out one of our site sponsors, VeloConcepts, they just added a ton of rain specific items).
Here are some key details from Event Organizer, Jane from the TdM.
“The Tour de Madison goes on rain or shine. It is possible, of course, that flooding could cause the local authorities to shut us down. Barry, my co-organizer, was in touch with Madison Emergency Services this afternoon and they reported that the National Weather Service is now saying that most of the rain will be Friday/Friday night, with it tapering off on Saturday. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they are right and the forecast continues to improve. In light of that, we are making a slight route change to keep you all from riding over the “low water bridge” on Lillard’s Ford Road…
We do not give refunds. We advertise that up front. There is no way we can plan and pay for the t-shirts, the food for rest stops, the post ride meal and entertainment without this policy…”
The Culpeper crew is going to be out at this ride in full force, regardless of weather, because if nothing else, misery loves company. But we will have our Sunday’s Best (of rain gear on) because as the old adage goes, there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.
